Animal of the Month

Name: Sphex Pennsylvania

Origin: New Mexico

Found: Ross Sanford

Fun Facts: Adult females are active hunters who paralyze and carry their prey back to the nest for their brood.

The iridescent Great Black Wasp pollinates flowers while feeding itself, and removes plant pests while feeding its young making it a great friend to gardens and fields.

Name: Celosia Argentea

Origin: Utah

Found: Stanley L.

Fun Facts: The genus name comes from the Greek word for burning and refers to the colorful blooms that are shaped similar to a flame.

This plant tolerates dry porous soils and thrives in heat and humidity.

Big Bear Bald Eagle Live Stream

The nest is located in Big Bear Valley in the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern California. It is about 145 feet up in a Jeffrey Pine tree. The nest is the current home for Jackie and Shadow, a local bald eagle pair.
